HIGHTLIGHTS OF HOLLAND DAY TO DAY ITINERARY:

Saturday, April 7, 2012: cycle trip = 20km
After we embark in Amsterdam, we’ll be sailing right through the center of the city. There’s a short cycle trip following the banks of the river Amstel ending in Uithoorn/Kudelstaart.

Sunday, April 8, 2012: cycle trip = 55km
Today we’ll cross the real Green Heart of Holland – on cycle paths through the lake areas of the Langeraarse Plassen and Brasssemer Meer. Our trip ends in the university town of Leiden. A city walk in the historical center of Rembrandt’s birthplace, with its numerous courtyards is highly recommended.

Monday, April 9, 2012: cycle trip = 50km
Today’s itinerary leads to the seaside resort Katwijk, through a dune area, finally arriving in Zandvoort. If weather permits, you may spend some time on the beach. Cycling along the path which was used by fishermen’s wives to go to the market, we’ll end in Haarlem. The small center invites you to do some shopping – Haarlem is locally referred to as the ‘best shopping town of the Netherlands’. Don’t forget to sit down and have a drink on one of the terraces located in the market place.

Tuesday, April 10, 2012: cycle trip = 50km
The first village we’ll arrive in is Spaarndam, (the village of Hans Brinker). After the crossing of the North Sea canal by ferry, we’ll continue cycling through rural villages like Nauerna. We’ll visit the open air museum Zaanse Schans and continue to follow the river Zaan along the Knollendammer canal until reaching the cheese town of Alkmaar.

Wednesday, April 11, 2012: cycle trip = 55km
Today the barge will stay in Alkmaar. There is a cycle trip to the unique wooded dune area near the villages Bergen and Schoorl, and then on to the Hondsbossche Zeewering (sea wall). We’ll have plenty of time to have a drink at an outdoor café or take a walk on the beach. Of course, you are more than welcome to spend the day on your own sightseeing in Alkmaar or relaxing at the seaside.

Thursday, April 12, 2012: cycle trip = 45km
After passing Oterleek and Avenhorn, we’ll arrive in Hoorn. Once acquainted with this historical port town, we’ll take the road along the coast, where we’ll have a splendid view over the Ijssel Lake. From there, we’ll take a ride following the canal ‘Beemsterringvaart’ where we’ll visit the windmill museum in Schermerhorn before arriving in Purmerend.

Friday, April 13, 2012: cycle trip = 50km
First, we’ll cycle around the picturesque village of Edam before moving on to the fishing village of Volendam, where we’ll take a break and enjoy the atmosphere and the locals in traditional costume. Then, we’ll continue along the coastline of the Ijssel Lake through Uitdam and Durgerdam. After crossing the Ijssel Lake by ferry, we’ll arrive back in the center of Amsterdam. In the evening, you may wish to join the guide for a walk through the city, or explore Amsterdam on your own.
