Cades Cove Weekend, Sep 2010

"Cades Cove Biking & Hiking Weekend!"

Date: Friday, Sep 17- Sunday, Sep 19, 2010

Trip Information

A "cove" in Smokey Mountain vernacular is a relatively flat valley between mountains or ridges. This particular cove is a showcase for some of the most inspiring natural and cultural treasures that the Southern Appalachian Mountains have to offer.

Join us on a 2 night camping adventure in the Cades Cove campground of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park only about 200 miles from Atlanta. We have a 20 person group site reserved for tent camping.

The highlight of this trip is a Saturday morning bike ride around the 11 mile loop road. We will stop frequently to enjoy the scenic and cultural sites. Wildlife viewing will include deer, turkey and sometimes black bear. The National Park Service maintains the historic homesteads, churches, cemeteries, and even a grist mill which provide a glimpse into early 20'th century mountain life. Saturday afternoon there is an optional moderate five mile hike to Abrams Falls which is just off the loop road.

Those not inclined to bike can hike the many trails in the area, go sightseeing in Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg or just relax at the campsite.

Bring your camping gear, bicycles and camp chairs for an enjoyable weekend. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided Saturday and breakfast Sunday also..
