At the crossroads of France, Italy and Switzerland, Chamonix sits at the base of the 15,767 foot Mont Blanc. The power and beauty of the legendary Chamonix area is unmatched. This “bucket list” destination is the oldest ski resort area in France. There are four different ski areas (two of them with new Gondolas) with a total of 170 km of ski runs to satisfy all levels of skiers, each easily accessed from Chamonix as explained in this video guide to skiing at Chamonix -
There are also Ski touring routes including the famous Vallee Blanche, a lift-served, off-piste 20 km long ski route with a vertical descent of 2700m. In addition to downhill skiing, outdoor enthusiasts can also enjoy an extensive Nordic Trail system, Snowshoeing, and Dog-Sledding.
Skiers and non-skiers alike will be able to ride the two-stage cable car to the Aiguille du Midi and witness the breathtaking panoramic views of the Mont Blanc Masiff. The Aiguille du Midi holds the record for the highest vertical ascent cable car in the world.
We will also make time for the Train du Montenvers, a 25 minute train ride that will take us to the bottom of Mer du Glace or “Sea of Ice,” France’s largest glacier. And then we can take the tour of the Grotte de Glace to see the ever-changing ice caves and go into the heart of the glacier.
And after the lifts close, hit the town - Chamonix’s village is brimming with nightlife including bars with live music, a casino, designer boutiques and high performance outdoor gear shops. And let’s not forget the French food (including a restaurant with two Michelin stars)! As a bonus, there is an Italian influence on some of the cuisine, since Chamonix borders both Italy and Switzerland.

Lyon, the capital city in France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, sits at the junction of the Rhône and Saône rivers. Its center reflects 2,000 years of history from the Roman Amphithéâtre des Trois Gaules, medieval and Renaissance architecture in Vieux (Old) Lyon, to the modern Confluence district on Presqu'île peninsula. Traboules, covered passageways between buildings, connect Vieux Lyon and La Croix-Rousse hill.
